If you've been playing an NBA 2K game and are having trouble locating your MyCAREER file, we have some solutions for you.
Please check out the workarounds below, which are broken down by platform.
If the Automatic Update feature is enabled on PlayStation 4, save game files will be automatically uploaded to the cloud by default. Thankfully, Automatic Update is enabled by default on most PlayStation 4 consoles. That means you should be able to download your saved game data from the cloud. In order to do this, please perform the following steps:
- Start out in the Dynamic Menu.
- Go to (Settings) > Application Data Management > Saved Data in Online Storage > "Download to System Storage" and press (X button).
- Select your NBA 2K game.
- Download all files that start with "MyCareer…"
Similarly to PS4, to continually have your save data synced to the cloud, 'Automatic Updates' must be enabled. Once uploaded you can download that save data, directly from the cloud, to the PS5 storage with these steps:
- Go to Settings > Games/Apps and Saved Data.
- Select Saved Data (PS5) or Saved Data (PS4).
- Select Cloud Storage and select your NBA 2K game > Download to Console Storage.
Cloud saves cannot be manually made on Xbox One. However, as long as you're connected to the XBOX network, they're automatically uploaded from the Microsoft Cloud Exchange. While you can't save it manually, you can start the retrieval by going to "Manage Game & Add-Ons" and selecting "Saved Data". From there you're looking for "Cloud Saves" which will let you "Download to Console".
If your save files aren't there, then please visit https://support.xbox.com/help/games-apps/game-setup-and-play/cloud-game-saves-faq and verify that you're utilizing the cloud save system correctly.
Save data backups can be downloaded from the game's software menu or from within System Settings.
To download a backup from the software menu:
- Open the game's software menu and select Save Data Cloud.
- Select the desired user, then select Download Save Data.
To download a backup from within System Settings:
- From the HOME Menu, select System Settings, then Data Management and finally Save Data Cloud.
- Select the desired user, then choose the backup file you wish to download.
- Select Download Save Data.
A Nintendo Switch Online membership is required to use this feature.
Save data backups can be restored from within the Steam application if Steam Saves are Enabled.
- Launch Steam
- Click on "Steam" in the upper left corner of the Steam application
- Select "Backup and restore games..."
- Select "Restore a previous backup"
- Browse to the location of the game's backup files
- Continue through the Steam windows to install the necessary games.
If the path to your Steam installation contains special characters, such as C:\Steam安装路径\Steam, the restore process may not complete successfully. If this issue occurs, you may need to re-install Steam to a location without special characters, such as C:\Steam.
Additionally, you can restore a player if you have a backup of the save files stored from the Cloud. If you do not have a backup currently, please contact us to have your MyCAREER file restored.
You can check out the Steam Cloud Storage to view if your saves have been stored in the Cloud. MyCAREER files will appear as "MyCAREER0000" with different numbers (e.g., MyCAREER0012) depending on which save slot it is saved to.
If a MyCAREER file is missing from the game, these backup files can be placed within C:\Program Files (x86)Steam\userdata\(your account ID)\(game ID*)\remote to restore it.
* The game ID can be found in the Steam store page URL.
Once the files are placed into the remote folder, completely restart NBA 2K and Steam.
Your missing MyCAREER files will reappear as "Unknown". Just load them up into the City and you're good to go!
If you have several MyCAREER files and are unsure which one you're looking to restore, please contact us to restore it.
If this doesn't fix things, then we'll need you to file a support ticket with us and we'll do our best to assist you. Keep in mind that we cannot guarantee a restoration and that the restoration process may have some limits.

If you’d like to get a step ahead on the restoration process, you can create a placeholder which we’ll use to copy the lost file’s information on. Please follow these specifications closely, as each piece is necessary for the restoration process to be successful:
- Please ensure that the placeholder:
- Is not a Rebirth save
- Is not a template
- Has no chosen 'Build Specialization.' (For NBA 2K26)
- Has no attributes upgraded at all
- Position, Handedness, Height, Weight, and Wingspan: Same as your affected file
