If you receive the notice, “'UserData' file has been corrupted and is unable to be loaded. The corrupted file will now be overwritten", be aware that this happens after you get an error downloading files from PlayStation or Xbox Cloud Save occurs. It can also appear as ‘SaveDescriptions’ or ‘CareerModeBuilds’ rather than ‘UserData’, but they all stem from the same root issue.
We have a few steps on hand to help resolve this.
1. Click "OK" to dismiss the error message.
2. Enter the game and the "2KTV" tab on the Main Menu will change to "Connect".
3. Click "Connect" and you should see the "Update required" message appear at the bottom of the screen.
Once the update is complete, your save data should be restored!
If downloading the update didn’t help to resolve the message, then:
1. Create a temporary player and play a few games until you receive an update message.
2. Load into the Play Now menu and allow your game to sit for a while.
a. The update message could take quite a long time (possibly hours) to appear. For faster results, we recommend connecting your console directly to the router via an Ethernet cable.
3. You'll then receive a notification on the bottom left of your screen telling you to return to the main menu.
Once you do, your game should be fully updated.
You can also perform a complete re-installation, however, this will take significantly longer to complete, and you should still allow your game to sit for a while after installation to download any patches/updates that may be available.
If you find your data isn’t completely downloading or stops part-way through, there may be an issue going on with your connection. Check out our General Networking Troubleshooting guide for consoles here to ensure you’ve got a stable connection.
This error message also appears after the reserved space was cleared.
If you don't know what reserved space is, please read up on it with this article.
Reserved space data will be re-downloaded by the game, but if the process is canceled (after the game rebooted), you'll no longer be able to play any online modes or access any of their online connected files.
To ensure that the data is downloaded correctly, please attempt the following:
- Load the game.
- Select the Play Now option. Do NOT head into a game.
- Don't you do it.
- Please stay on that menu.
If you're playing on a PlayStation 4, you can leave your console in Rest Mode while the data is downloading.
After a few hours (or longer, depending on your internet connection), you will receive a notification in yellow font on the bottom left of your screen telling you to return to the main menu. Once you do, your game will be fully updated and your reserved data will be reinstalled.
We can't stress this enough: Do not delete a game's reserved space on your hard drive.
