If you are under the age required by your region to create your own NBA 2K Account, we'd like to help work with a parent or guardian to verify the NBA 2K Account so players can hop on the court with full access to the game!
General Parent Approval and Child Account Questions
Q: How will I know if I am under the age required?
A: When you enter a date of birth on the launch of NBA 2K27 or NBA 2K HQ (whichever you log into first), our system will check your region and age and let you know if you need parent/guardian permission.
We may also use age information from platform providers to help our systems confirm whether a player needs parent or guardian permissions.
Q: Why would I be asked for parent/guardian permissions when I am already of-age?
A: 2K follows both region and game-specific requirements around personal information collection and game access for younger players. If you do not meet the minimum requirement for your region, then you will be prompted to set up parent/guardian permissions.
Q: What parental choices and controls are available as a parent or guardian?
A: When a parent or guardian sets up an NBA 2K Child Account, they can grant or remove permissions for their child to access certain game features or modes for games or apps designed to work with the NBA 2K Child Account. For example, these include whether their child can access online multiplayer, the visibility of their child’s profile to other users, and their child’s ability to share custom content, make purchases in the in-game store or communicate with other users via in-game voice chat. Permissions can also be set for new features in the NBA 2K HQ app such as text chat with other users and push notifications. If a parent or guardian changes a permission in either NBA 2K27 or the NBA 2K HQ app, that permission will also be updated in the other service when that other service is next launched. Further detail can be found in the Parental Permissions menu in NBA 2K and NBA 2K HQ.
Changes made to permissions in NBA 2K27 will also apply to the same features in NBA 2K26, if using the same NBA 2K Child Account.
Q: How can a parent update/manage permissions on their child’s NBA 2K Child Account?
A: The Parental Permissions menu can be accessed via "Features" on the main loading page of NBA 2K, or via “Parental Permissions” in the Settings menu within the NBA 2K HQ app. Any changes will require the permissions code given during the Kids Web Services verification process (discussed in further detail below).
Q: I’ve lost my permissions code, how do I get another one?
A: An option to request a new code will be available after making changes on the Parental Permissions page. This will take you back through the verification process to generate a new code.
Q: I have already set up parent/guardian controls on my console, PC, or mobile account. Do I need to set them again?
A: You will be asked to review permissions the first time your child plays a new NBA 2K game that uses an NBA 2K Child Account. 2K honors the parent/guardian controls that are set at the platform level (PlayStation / XBOX / Nintendo Switch / Steam) or by mobile devices (Apple / Android), but additional controls apply in games and apps that are accessed by NBA 2K Child Accounts.
Q: What personal information are you collecting from my child?
A: If you create an NBA 2K Child Account for your child, we collect certain information about your child like their username, profile, and email address. Children – and their parents – can choose what other information to provide to us, but some features will not work or will be limited if we lack certain information. Additional details are available in the Children’s Privacy Policy.
ID Verification
Q: Why does 2K need a parent or guardian’s email address for an NBA 2K Child Account?
A: We need an email address for a parent or guardian so that Kids Web Services (our age assurance vendor) can use it to start the adult verification process. This is required to verify the parent or guardian is an adult so that we can give them control over their child’s NBA 2K Child Account once verified.
Q: Why do you need my government ID?
A: 2K does not collect your government ID. Kids Web Services may collect it to verify you as an adult. Additional information is available in the Kids Web Services Privacy Policy.
Q: Why do you need my credit or debit card?
A: 2K does not collect payment card information. Kids Web Services may collect it to verify you as an adult. Additional information is available in the Kids Web Services Privacy Policy.
Your payment card will not be linked to your child’s NBA 2K Child Account to enable future purchases.
Q: Are there any other ways for me to verify my identity?
A: Yes, depending on the country/region, there may be other verification methods. More information on what verification options are available for your country/region can be found in the Kids Web Services verification FAQ.
NBA 2K Account Questions
Q: Is an NBA 2K Account the same as a 2K Account?
A: No, an NBA 2K Account exists separately from a 2K Account and is only used to access NBA 2K titles. The parent/guardian will not be required to have an NBA 2K Account.
Q: How can I change the date of birth for my NBA 2K Child Account?
A: Once set, the date of birth on the account cannot be adjusted. Please enter your information carefully. Note that the date of birth you can enter may be affected by any age information we receive from your console/platform.
If you've entered the date of birth in error, you have a couple of options:
- Complete the child account verification process using your correct information for adult verification. Once verified, you can manage permissions and enable the desired game modes via the Parental Permissions section in your account settings.
- Create a brand new platform ID and begin the setup process again, making sure to enter your correct information during the initial launch.
- Keep in mind that content and VC redeemed on the original account with the incorrect information cannot be transferred to the brand new platform ID. This includes content from special editions, purchases, or Locker Codes.
Teen Account Questions
Q: Where do I go for information about a Teen Account that isn't a Child Account?
A: We have a guide you can find here: NBA 2K27: Teen Accounts
