Cap Breakers were introduced in NBA 2K25, and in NBA 2K26 they make their return in new and exciting ways! For the full details on what's new, you can check out the MyPLAYER Courtside Report for NBA 2K26, or browse through some common questions below.
What are Cap Breakers?
Cap Breakers are a way to push your build's attribute potential beyond the cap!
With so many choices on where to apply Cap Breakers, it's important to remember that a Cap Breaker can only be applied to an attribute a maximum of 5 times, and that applying any Cap Breakers is a permanent change to your attributes that can't be moved once applied. The max potential rating of attributes can also be limited by the height, weight and wingspan of your build.
What's changed with Cap Breakers?
NBA 2K26 has expanded the ways you can collect Cap Breakers this year, such as through Build Specializations, Season rewards, REP rewards and more, so there's tons of customization options to suit your build to your style!
Additionally, Cap Breaker will still raise your highest-rated and strongest attributes by a single point, but if you choose to apply them to your lower-rated attributes, you'll see an even greater boost.

Can you apply Cap Breakers earned from Build Specialization to any attribute?
Any Cap Breakers earned through Build Specialization are limited in that they must be applied within the attribute category you specialized in or applied to a Physicals attribute.
Will I lose my Cap Breaker if I leave my crew?
Leaving a Crew will relinquish all Crew awards from the Crew, except the Cap Breaker rewards. The Cap Breakers will not be regained and re-rewarded upon joining a new Crew.
What about Catch-Up Cap Breakers?
Same as last year, Catch-up Cap Breakers only apply to a previously unplayed season that offer Cap Breakers starting the first time you log in to NBA 2K26.
If your first login is in Season 5, but you don't hit 40, then in Season 6 you put in the extra effort and do, you'll get Cap Breakers for the seasons you missed (1 through 4) and one for the season you hit 40, but you won't get one for that missed attempt in Season 5 - for a total of four Cap Breakers.
Keep in mind that any time you play and miss the goal of level 40, that season doesn't count for your one-time catch-up when you finally get it. An example of that would be starting in Season 5, missing 40, trying again in Season 6, missing 40 again, and then finally hitting 40 in Season 7 - congratulations! You'd get your catch-up Cap Breakers in Season 7, covering missed seasons 1 through 4, then no cap breaker for Season 5 or 6, and one for Season 7's level 40 for a total of four Cap Breakers.
