NBA 2K: Missing vs Corrupt MyCAREER Files

PUBLISHED:
UPDATED:

If you're having trouble with a saved MyCAREER file in NBA 2K, there's a chance it's either missing or it's corrupted.

The good news is we have some guides on what you can do to resolve the situation, regardless of whether the file is missing or corrupt.

That said, you might be wondering how to determine whether the said file is missing or corrupt.

It's actually pretty easy to determine:

  • If you've got a corrupted MyCAREER file, odds are you'll receive an error message when you try to load it. More than likely, this message will say "This save file is corrupted, and cannot be loaded."

  • If your MyCAREER file's missing, however, there shouldn't even be a file for you to try and load.

If your MyCAREER file is missing, follow these steps we've put together to walk you through the process of downloading the save from the cloud.

In a case where your file is corrupted, we also recommend re-downloading the save file and seeing if this resolves the issue.

If this doesn't fix things, then we'll need you to file a support ticket with us and we'll do our best to assist you. Keep in mind that we cannot guarantee a restoration and that the restoration process may have some limits.

What to include in my ticket:
  • Platform ID:
  • Platform:
  • NBA 2K In-Game registration email:
  • Position, archetypes, and overall of the missing save:

NOTE: In order to help us solve this issue in a speedy manner, please make sure you select the correct issue when you file a support ticket (under the dropdown menu labeled "the issue I'm having is...").

For a corrupt file, select MyCAREER > "This save file is corrupted, and cannot be loaded".

For a missing file, select MyCAREER > "I'm missing a MyPlayer".

If you’d like to get a step ahead on the restoration process, you can create a placeholder which we’ll use to copy the lost file’s information on. Please follow these specifications closely, as each piece is necessary for the restoration process to be successful:

Gen 5 console (PS5, XBOX Series X|S, or Steam):
  • Do not use a template.

  • Do not create a Rebirth save.

  • The following stats need to be the same as your missing file:

    • Position

    • Handedness

    • Height

    • Weight

    • Wingspan

  • Ensure the placeholder has no attributes upgraded. They will be overwritten.

  • Archetypes will need to match the save that is being restored.

What will be restored:
  • Badges

  • Attributes

  • Stats

  • Tattoos

  • Items

  • Animations that your MyCAREEER file meets the requirements for

  • Quest progress shared with all saves

  • Any equipped Cap Breakers on the original save

What won't be restored:
  • MyCAREER story progression

  • Animations this player doesn't meet the requirements for

  • Any Cap Breakers applied to the placeholder before we make this restoration will be lost.

  • Body Types will also be lost if Workout Warrior is not completed first.

Gen 4 console (PS4, XBOX One, or Switch):
  • Do not create a rebirth save

  • The following stats need to be the same as your missing file:

    • Position

    • Handedness

    • Height

    • Weight

    • Wingspan

  • Ensure the placeholder has no attributes upgraded. They will be overwritten.

  • Archetypes will need to match the save we are restoring

What will be restored:
  • Badges

  • Attributes

  • Stats

  • Tattoos

  • Items

  • Animations that you meet the requirements for

  • Quest progress shared with all saves

What won't be restored:
  • MyCAREER story progression

  • Animations this player doesn't meet the requirements for

  • Badge Progress between ranks (Example: any progress Silver between Gold)

  • Core badges equipped during the cloning process will also lose progress if you unequip them after the clone is complete.
